Give The Devil A Beat Down – Ephesians 6:10-11

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” – Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV

Growing up as a kid in the inner city I am quite familiar with the term “beat down.” A beat down is when one or more persons physically whoop and dominate another person. Although this may seem harsh, there were certainly times when a beat down was necessary to protect myself from being overrun by aggressive adversaries. Who are more aggressive adversaries against the believer than the devil and his fallen? The devil is never nice to the believer since we are the target for his rebellion against God. The bible describes him as a serpent, dragon, accuser of the faithful, liar, thief and a deceiver. This means we can never have a cooperative relationship with him. The bible further describes him as throwing fiery darts at the believer and seeking people to devour. This foe, must be dealt with in street brawl fashion. We believers, must remain vigilant and determined to give the devil a beat down before he gives us one. Our Father has left us well defended with his Spirit, peace, salvation, righteousness, and faith. He has also given us the powerful two-edged sword of the bible which, when we apply it to our life, can cause damaging blows to the enemy. Failing to put on all of the armor will leave us exposed to an attack; our enemy is smart. Fight without the shield of faith and be surely doomed. Remove the helmet of salvation and there is no chance for success. Forget to gird truth around your waist and deceit will overtake you. The devil has well acknowledged schemes. He will continue to watch and wait for any moment the warrior of God leaves home unarmed to attack with veracity. In fact, even when fully armed, we must endure his blows by standing. So mount up boys and girls of God and give the devil and his fallen a big beat down. Trust the defense and offense of the Lord. Don’t knock it until you try it.
